Your Spring Cleaning Checklist
As the birds begin to sing and the evenings start to get lighter, we know that Spring is coming, and with it a feeling of new beginnings.
There’s no better time than Spring to give your house that deep clean it’s been asking for since the new year.
With a few baubles still knocking about under the sofa, and a garden that’s been ravaged by winter, it’s no surprise we leave it so long when the chores soon start to pile up.
But giving your home a little tender love and care, can put back the tranquility needed for the new year ahead.
Of course in the your long list of to-do’s there will no doubt be a few you’ve forgotten, so we’ve compiled a checklist that will ensure your home is as fresh as a daisy.
Empty your Gutters
One that get’s put off time and time again, but cleaning your gutters each spring will ensure they don’t cause any stressful water damage situations to your home.
Always a two person job, we’d recommend clearing out any old leaves, twigs or debris that’s got caught up and flush it out with water.
Check there are no leaks as you do this, and you’ll be ready for the April showers in no time.
Tidy up your Garden
Whether the Christmas tree has been left to rot, or the landscape has changed to one of an overgrown forest, grab your gloves and shears and give it all a good trim.
Not only will this encourage the spring buds to start growing, but it won’t give you as much of a headache when you look outside.
Leave bigger jobs for the warmer days, but just remove any rubbish or dead plants, so that you have a blank canvas to play with once the better gardening days arrive.
Add a Lick of Paint
Sometimes adding a new colour to a room can change it completely and make it feel more like home. Spring is the perfect time to find a fresh colour that will add life to a room, and perhaps turn it into a more enjoyable space.
Fix any Problems
We all have the niggling problems that we’ve put off for so long it just becomes part of life.
Whether that’s learning to open a cupboard door a certain way so it doesn’t fall off, or knowing just how much to open that window without having to use brute force to shut it again.
Door or Window Repairs, now is the time to get them fixed, and just make life more bearable.
Wash Your Curtains
Machine washable or dry clean only, there’s a years worth of dust hidden in that fabric.
Remove any hooks and fittings, and make it your mission to get them clean.
If they’re hand wash only try putting them in the bath instead of the sink, but always remember to hang them to avoid any creases. Ironing curtains is no fun for anyone.
Sort out your Cupboards
We use them on a daily basis yet really they get very little cleaning attention.
And when you begin this chore you’ll be amazed at what you will find.
Take everything out and give it a thorough clean with warm soapy water and a scouring sponge. This should remove any excess grease and the treacle that overspills after every pancake day.
If you haven’t used anything for over 6 months, do yourself a favour and chuck it out.
Bag up unwanted belongings
Hoarding clothes, books and other personal belongings can cause us to over fill our houses with things we actually don’t need.
Be brutal with your stuff, and bag up anything you don’t need or want. The likelihood is you’re not going to miss it once it’s gone, and the de-cluttered space will add more room.
Tackle the Oven
It’s a dirty job that no-one likes to do, but once it’s done there’s a strange satisfaction about looking at a very clean and shiny oven. With so many advances in cleaning products you won’t need much elbow grease for this task any longer.
Dry Clean the Upholstery
Just like those curtains, the sofa covers and cushions will also be harbouring allsorts or dust and dirt that you’ll want to eradicate on your mission for a pristine spring clean.
Thankfully in these modern times many of them are now machine washable, so it can be a far simpler task. Of course if you do have furniture that requires a more delicate touch, ensure to do your research into a reputable upholstery cleaner.
Hang those pictures
We’re all guilty of filling frames but never actually putting them up.
Well during your spring clean, just do it!
It’s the little touches like this that will make your house a home.
