Oh-so Romantic stay-at-home Valentine’s Ideas

Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to show that special someone how much you care. But the romantic event has been somewhat hi-jacked in recent years as every shop, bar and restaurant jumps to cash-in on people’s affections. If over-priced and over-crowded restaurant dining isn’t your idea of romance, why not avoid the crowds and stay at home for Valentine’s this year?

Staying at home for Valentine’s doesn’t have to be boring, and it doesn’t mean a night spent in front of the telly either! It’s a great opportunity to get creative and show the one you love how special they are to you. Give one of these romantic ideas for Valentine’s a try – they’re sure to go down a treat.

Star Gazing

There’s nothing quite so romantic as gazing up at the heavens together. Don’t worry if you can’t tell your Big Dipper from your Zodiac, there are loads of great star-gazing apps that can do the hard work for you. As long as you set the scene with candles dotted around the garden, two warm cups of cocoa and a big cosy blanket, you’re sure to win their heart. If it’s really chilly you can always retreat to the conservatory!

Chocolate Tasting Evening

Forget giving a box of chocolates – that requires so little thought! Instead set up a chocolate tasting evening at home! Find some of the tastiest chocolates – Belgian, dark, organic, even raw – and couple with fruits, biscuits, marshmallows, whatever you like. You could melt some chocolate to dip the fruit into a la fondue. If you really want to push the boat out, you could try including a little chocolate into each course of a meal.

Conservatory camp-out

Unleash the kid inside you both and create a den in the conservatory! Set a tent up inside, or drape some sheets you can both hang out under. Pile cushions, blankets and pillows and spend some quality time together just chatting and relaxing. It’s that bit more romantic knowing you’re (sort-of) camping out under the stars.

All Dressed Up

Get dressed up in your finest attire – whether that’s a ball-gown and a tuxedo or your favourite vintage pieces. Do your hair and makeup, splash your favourite scent on and even shine your best shoes. You’ll both look stunning and it will feel so special – even if you don’t leave the house. And since you both look so great, why not pop a bottle of bubbly, play your favourite albums and dance the night away in your living room?

Cocktail night

Grab all those half-finished bottles of spirits and spend the evening getting creative. Stock up on juices, syrups, wedges of lemons and fizz, and see what tasty concoctions you can create! If you’re worried you might accidentally poison each other, there are so many great cocktail recipes and video guides online, so there’s no need to fear.

A candlelit dinner – with all their favourite foods!

Even if you went to the fanciest restaurant in town, there’s no way you could have ALL your favourite foods at once, is there? This idea might take some preparation, but serving up a banquet of all their favourite dishes is a guaranteed winner. So what if their favourite foods happen to be beans on toast, spaghetti, ice cream and fish pie?
