It’s Time to Prepare Your Home for Christmas
Yes you certainly read that title correctly. We may be only coming to the end of October but unfortunately Christmas is coming around, and we know that if there’s one thing worse than a burnt turkey or the falling needles from your tree, it’s having to enjoy your Christmas surrounded in chaos from those unfinished DIY projects.
It was recently revealed that 63% of homeowners in the UK have uncompleted tasks in their homes such as painting and decorating.
We know that the nights have turned and the dark days mean that you’d prefer to just hide-away and relax when you get home, but finishing those odd jobs can be the making or breaking of a merry Christmas.
So before you start to come up with any excuses we thought we’d give a little guide to get those jobs ticked off before December arrives.
Get Focused
Not that you wanted to, but don’t even think about Christmas for the time being. Those long lists of presents can most definitely wait until December and as for organising the decorations, that too can be put off until the house is in an immaculate state.
Rather than focus on too much at once it’s best to just forget the rest and concentrate on the jobs at hand.
You can never go wrong with a handy to-do list, so start making a note of all those odd jobs.
Start with the most important job first, is this something that you can do yourself or are you going to need to hire a tradesman to give you hand?
By noting everything in a chronological order of importance you can then be more practical and productive in ticking things off.
Besides, if you need a helping hand you may want to organise them first so that you don’t have to dip into the Christmas fund to pay for their services.
Be Honest
We’d all love to think that we have all the time in the world to get these jobs done, but be realistic about what you’re going to be able to achieve. Is there anything on that list that can be left until next year?
Weigh up exactly the importance of your tasks, and the man power you have available.
The likelihood of any of your friends helping you anytime soon is low considering they’re probably also panicking about their own jobs, but you could always consider doing a swap to ensure you both get those jobs ticked off your list before the weather takes a turn.
Be realistic and get help if you need it.
Don’t Take Risks
As we all know, the winter weather can often surprise us, so if there are important jobs that are vital to your wellbeing it’s best that you ensure these are done first so that you don’t end up with a Christmas disaster.
Fixing broken windows, replacing missing roof tiles and giving your boiler a service should all be your main priority. These tasks not only keep your home warm through winter, but they’re also the most common call outs.
Relax
We know that all you want to do this Christmas is eat and drink too much without a worry in the world. So rather than you having to make your home the venue for the big Christmas dinner, how about seeing if someone else can host?
Preparing your home and the big meal can be a time consuming and exhausting task to say the least. See if you can arrange for someone else to take on the responsibility and offer to bring along some food to help with the catering. It’s far easier to cook and go, rather than cook and make the house look neat and tidy.
Of course if this isn’t possible, delegate the Christmas meal out to your friends or family, if you’re cooking the main meal perhaps they can bring along the starters and desserts, or maybe the drink.
As much as we all like to think we can be the host with the most, when you’re home still isn’t up to scratch it can be a more frustrating experience than a fun one.
As we specialise in fixing and replacing doors and windows, if this is a task you need to complete by Christmas, give our friendly and helpful team a call today so that we can give you a helping hand making your house feel like home again.
