Converting your conservatory to a home gym

A new year often comes with a new plan of attack for getting back in shape following the Christmas over-indulgence. If you’re planning on losing a few pounds, a new diet or a gym membership could be your go-to option.

But if you’re someone who usually likes to exercise in the great outdoors, the prospect could be less than inviting now that the winter weather has finally set in. Many people give up with their fitness regime through the colder months, which makes it harder to get back active once spring rolls around.

If you’re keen to keep in shape – or get your shape back – this January, and are looking for an alternative to running or cycling in the rain, frost and snow, a conservatory gym could be just what you’re in need of.

Converting the conservatory into a gym means that you can enjoy exercising in daylight without the freezing temperatures. It’s a lot easier than you think to transform your conservatory into a gym! Using your conservatory as your exercise arena is great for lots of reasons.

There’s plenty of space

Not everyone is lucky enough to have a spare room or a garage large enough to convert into a useable exercise space. Some exercise machinery is heavy, or large, or both. Having a conservatory means you’re already equipped with all the space you need for an exercise bike or a treadmill without cluttering up your spare bedroom, living room or office.

You’re still getting outdoors (sort of)

Part of the pleasure of running and cycling is getting out in the sunshine and fresh air, and enjoying the scenery. If you head to the gym you’ll probably find yourself staring at a blank wall, or at other sweaty gym users. The January freeze might force you to stay inside to exercise, but you can still enjoy the natural light and take in the view of your garden while exercising in your conservatory.

It’s free (almost)

Ok, so you’ll probably have to fork out for the initial costs of any gym equipment, but once it’s all set up, you don’t have to pay any ongoing gym membership costs, and there’s no added cost of petrol or parking in order to get there. If you’re looking to work out on a budget, an exercise mat, some hand weights and a YouTube tutorial is all you need!

Fitness on your schedule

Gyms are usually very busy during peak hours, and they have set opening and closing hours. Then there’s the sweaty changing rooms and often unpleasant communal shower situation that nobody enjoys. With your very own home gym, you can come and go as you please. What’s more, after a particularly hard session you’re only moments from the shower, the sofa, and the fridge!

It doesn’t have to be a permanent fixture

The great thing about the conservatory is its diversity.  Just as it’s easy to transform into your home-gym through the winter months, once the ice thaws and you feel confident exercising outdoors once again, it doesn’t take long to disassemble your workout space and turn it back into a relaxing sitting room, home office, or dining room.
